Final YAYA Supports Relay for Life and Classic Novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

Hi All!

Alexander County Library's young adult bookclub, YAYAs, had a great last hurrah for the 2012/2013 school year on Friday night, May 17, 2013.  A total of 13 teens participated.  We walked the track for our local Relay for Life, which raises funds for cancer research, and then "locked in" the library.

First, we created Tshirts before we left the library.  We used flaming duct tape to cut out letters which spelled "YAYAS 4 LIFE".  OK, so we had one number as well!

Everyone got their Tshirts lettered. No one can say these guys aren't "lettermen".

Then, we set out  to walk across town to the high school where the event was held. We looked like a right groovy herd.

It is always moving to watch our neighbors and friends who have survived cancer walk the survivor lap to start the evening's festivities.

At Relay, we ran into all kinds of special folks, ate awesome food, and listened to great local musicians.

Back at the library, it was games, music, and lots of laughter.  I am going to miss this group very much.  We have graduated three this year!

Now for a riddle - Why is Mel's Tshirt the most awesome in a literary kind of way?  Let's look at the clues.

Remember the flaming letters?

Name that book!
